The Rally for Reconciliation took place yesterday in support of Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation with a strong message; there is still a lot of work to be done.
A large crowd of people gathered just before 2:00 pm outside the Northbank Lodge in Pippy Park to mark the occasion.
The ceremony included music, speeches from Elders and a Memorial Walk which contained several items, including toys and clothing, to reflect survivors’ stories and experiences.

The Minister of Education and Economic Development for the Nunatsiavut Government, Gerald Asivak, was one of many to speak about his experience as a child of residential school survivors.
He says the community is still facing many challenges including poverty, health issues, and racism.
Chief Jenny Brake of the Qalipu First Nation also took some time to address the crowd.
She says the truth hasn’t come out yet and the only way through to reconciliation is by finding and accepting the truth.
