The Atlantic hurricane season is still on track to be one of the quietest on record.
As of yesterday no potential storm activity was forecast in the Atlantic basin for the next seven days thanks to an intense El Niño effect which has prevented storms from developing into hurricanes.
There have been eight tropical storms in the Atlantic so far this year – none of which have strengthened into hurricanes.
It’s a different story in the Pacific which has seen a very busy hurricane season, with officials currently keeping a close eye on Hurricane Rachel.
