A mechanical failure has taken the Legionnaire out of service on the Bell Island run.

The Department of Transportation says technicians have been dispatched and repairs are already underway.

The earliest expected return to service is Sunday morning, but that is subject to change.

The Beaumont Hamel is operating on a load and go basis through the evening with the last trips scheduled for 10:00 p.m. from Bell Island and 11:35 p.m. from Portugal Cove.

Load and go service will resume tomorrow morning, with a dangerous goods trip still scheduled for the morning.
