The MHA for Burgeo-LaPoile is questioning the federal government’s recent decision to appoint a man from Halifax as the new Chair of the Board of Marine Atlantic.

Paul Beesley was appointed to the position at the recommendation of the federal Minister of Transport.

Michael King says he has no issues with Beesley’s qualifications, but wonders whether Ottawa appreciates the role of Marine Atlantic as Newfoundland’s vital link to the mainland.

“Having someone from this province as the Chair of Marine Atlantic is so vital going forward….who has that local knowledge to have that experience, to bring our perspective to the Board.”
