The Mayor of St. John’s is encouraging residents with property complaints to contact 311 for follow-up.

A property complaint is what prompted city inspectors and the St. John’s Regional Fire Department to shut down a problem apartment building in the downtown last week.

Danny Breen admits not all property complaints are as serious, or as complex, as the one involving 91 Brazil Street, and different complaints require different responses.

“In significant cases like this, the fire department and our city inspectors, (would be called in.) If there’s a property that’s presenting a safety / property challenge that can’t be ignored, they’ll take the necessary action.”
