Update at 6:00 p.m.
The RNC says its services are now fully restored.
Earlier story
A “widespread” outage affecting Bell Canada has affected a wide range of phone services in the province.
The outage is affecting the RCMP’s phone services, some 911 calls and their non-emergency line.
RCMP are asking anyone who needs police assistance to call their Operational Communications centre at 709-693-6271. In the meantime, the RNC is urging those facing an emergency to call 911.
The RNC says its non-emergency phone reporting line is unavailable due to “a widespread telecommunications outage.”
Meanwhile, NL Housing says its Emergency Shelter Line is also affected. If someone needs emergency shelter they’re being asked to call a temporary replacement number that will be discontinued once the Emergency Shelter Line is back up and running. (709-724-9063)
The cause of the outage is under investigation.
VOCM News has reached out to Bell Canada for an update and will have more information as it becomes available.
