A specialized heart procedure was recently performed in the province for the very first time.
The province’s very first Mitral Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge (or TEER) procedure – a non-invasive way to treat a leaky heart valve – was performed on Thursday.
Until now, patients had to leave the province for treatment.
NL Health Services says performing the procedure locally comes as the result of months of planning, training and collaboration among teams from across the province.
