The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Association has released its first-ever strategic plan – and it calls for dozens more of Newfoundland and Labrador’s finest to be added to the mix.
President Shane McClafferty says he’s pleased to formalize the RNCA’s objectives and “put a clear strategy in place” to guide the association as it moves forward.
Among the priorities is achieving the national “police-to-population” ratio. He says the province is on the right track, but more work is needed.
“The number fluctuates,” says McClafferty. “For the RNCA to be up to national police to population ratio, we’re looking at an additional 50 to 60 officers.”
He says while recruitment initiatives are underway, the number of officers is down over the last number of years. He says the RNCA is willing to do its part to help attract more officers to the profession.
