The provincial government is getting ready to shut down its emergency operations centre as municipalities continue work to get back to normal operations following “Snowmageddon 2020.”
The centre was established to help residents in need during the state of emergency, which all but shut down many communities following the January 17 storm.
A team of 15 RNC cadets staffed the centre to arrange assistance for vulnerable people during storm recovery. A second line was eventually opened to alleviate demand on the emergency centre.

The Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment says the shutdown will begin tomorrow—meaning the emergency assistance line will no longer accept calls for support. The secondary line, managed by the Canadian Red Cross, has also ceased its operations.
Moving forward, information and assistance should be requested through the typical service providers, or through municipal services.
As snow clearing efforts continue, pedestrians and drivers alike are urged to use caution when traveling.
