It’s a birth that’s being celebrated across the province.
Salty, the Newfoundland pony foal came into the word July 7th. Owner Kelly Power Kean made the exciting announcement on Facebook.
Since then the little foal has garnered a great deal of attention even making national headlines.
The Newfoundland pony is endangered with only a few hundred animals left. The hardy ponies are a unique breed, having adapted to the harsh Newfoundland landscape and climate. They were an integral part of early settlement in coastal communities, but municipal laws and the introduction of All Terrain Vehicles made pony ownership increasingly difficult – contributing to their decline.
