Heavy fog has blanketed much of metro, creating delays at St. John’s International. Several flights have had to circle, waiting for the opportunity to land.
The Environment Canada forecast calls for fog patches, but it’s more like a wall of fog in the St. John’s area.
The airport installed an Instrument Three landing system a couple of years ago, which greatly reduced the number of fog-related cancellations. The heavy fog currently covering the area probably would have led to all flights being scrubbed prior to the upgrade. As it is, only four incoming and four outgoing are listed as “delayed.”
