Questions are being raised about the proposed closure of Pearce Junior High in Burin.
Local education advocate, Ruby Hoskins, says the proposed closure of the school makes no sense given current numbers.
As part of its review of the Marystown school system, the board is proposing to close Pearce Junior High in June. The students would attend Marystown Central High, which will be converted to an 8-12 school.
Last week District Superintendant Tony Stack indicated there would be benefits in having more teachers at Marystown Central High, but there’s more to it than that, says Hoskins.
There will also be an additional 200 students and only four available classrooms according to Hoskins.
Members of the Board of Trustees will be in the area on Monday, March 2nd for a public meeting at Marystown Central High.
The Board of Trustees’ decision on the future of the school will be made March 28th.
