One of the world’s largest seafood exhibitions, in which Newfoundland has played an important role, will not be going ahead as scheduled thanks to the Coronavirus outbreak.
Fisheries and Land Resources Minister Gerry Byrne says organizers called him yesterday evening to say that the Boston Seafood Show has been postponed, and maybe even cancelled due to concerns around the outbreak.
Byrne notes this province has had a historic presence at the show in past years, and potentially not having the expo all together this year will have an impact.
The show is a great chance to gain intelligence on where the markets are headed, which would prove especially valuable this year, because he could gather information on how the Coronavirus will affect our seafood markets. He notes how the virus that is jeopardizing the industry is now jeopardizing the expo.
