The association which lobbies on behalf the tourism industry says progress is being made in creating a level playing field for all in the industry.
Earlier this week, Marilyn Feltham of Gander revealed that she had to close her bed and breakfast because of what she termed as unfair competition from unlicensed accommodations listed on Airbnb.
Steve Denty, the new chair of Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador, says they got a commitment from Minister Bernard Davis at their weekend convention in Corner Brook that he would consult with industry on legislation to level the field.
Denty, who runs a hotel, is hopeful that they will soon have the framework in place. He says the ones they hear all the time are taxation, safety standards, levies, and how numbers are reported. He says they want to make sure that they do this right.
