A member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 50 in CBS calls a recent decision to cut counselling services for relatives of those with post-traumatic stress injuries “heartless.”
Woodrow French is also a member of the Peacekeepers Association and is a licensed PTSD First Aid instructor.
French was responding to a recent story out of Nova Scotia involving a young girl who is no longer able to avail of counselling services.
A military accident left her father, a retired corporal, with a traumatic brain injury and PTSD.
French says he’s amazed that this could happen.
He says a year or so ago he attended a summit with then-Veterans Affairs Minister Seamus O’Regan who indicated supports would be in place for veterans and their families. Now, French says we’ve seen a change in ministers and a change in policy.
French says the province has a lot of military veterans, some of whom have post traumatic injuries that affect their families. He says he’s disheartened by the news.
He knows some family members who are availing of the service, and hopes no-one locally has been cut off.
