Two international school trips, one of which included northern Italy have been cancelled by the English School District as a result of growing concerns about the coronavirus.
The School District says international school trips are organized by third party educational travel companies and the district works with travel companies on any potential issues that may arise.
As of today, the district has cancelled two trips involving about 40 students and chaperones from a total of five schools.
The action was taken as the result of a federal government travel advisory related to northern Italy and the fact that the travel provider was unable to change the itinerary.
The district is continuing to work closely with travel companies, the provincial government and the Chief Medical Officer of Health in monitoring the situation.
Other international trips scheduled for this school year are being evaluated as new information is made available.
The District has issued a Public Advisory to inform families of our continued monitoring of international student travel through #nlschools.
