The snow has started to taper off in areas of the Avalon but a blowing snow advisory remains in effect.
Road conditions remain poor with low visibility and drifting snow. Some areas including the Burin Peninsula and parts of the Trans Canada Highway in the east also have slushy patches.
According to Environment Canada, the winds will ease back early this afternoon and conditions will improve throughout the day.
The Witless Bay Line remains closed to all traffic. Heavy drifting has made for harsh conditions with little to no visibility.
