The English School District is cancelling all District-approved travel to European countries, booked to the end of April because of COVID-19.
That affects 17 trips and approximately 475 students and chaperones. Other destinations are also being monitored and may be cancelled as the situation evolves.
In regards to possible reimbursement of fees for families of affected students, the school district says:
“There may be opportunities for full or partial reimbursement (based on individual insurance plans); rerouting to alternate destinations, rescheduling for alternate dates, or vouchers for future travel. However, each situation is unique, so the District encourages families to contact their school trip organizer, and work with their travel company and insurance provider, to determine available options. Parents may also be able to cancel of their own accord.”
CEO Tony Stack says the decision was not taken lightly.
The board has been monitoring the situation closely and watching the number of confirmed cases increase in areas where students are scheduled to travel.
They’ve taken the precautionary measure to reduce the risk of having students exposed to the virus, or being quarantined for extended periods either at home or abroad. He says that’s just not a risk they’re willing to take.
