Self-isolation is nothing new to some older residents of the province.
92-year-old Teresa Lawrence of Alderwood Estates in Witless Bay remembers well the days surrounding tuberculosis outbreaks in the province.
She spent some time in one of the sanatoriums set up in the province after contracting the highly contagious respiratory illness 70 years ago.
She says she is adjusting just fine to life in lockdown; something that appears to be a common trait among those in the seniors residence.
Lawrence says there was a stretch of time when she was quarantined every winter so she is familiar with institutional living.
While tuberculosis remains a concern in Labrador with a number of recent outbreaks, TB was brought under control on the island decades ago with the help of drug treatments and prevention methods.
Meanwhile, Lawrence and other residents of Alderwood Estates continue to show the their resilience in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
