The Independent MHA who was one of two government members at the center of the House of Assembly harassment allegations has filed a Statement of Claim against some of the other players in the scandal.
Eddie Joyce has filed a lawsuit in the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador against Premier Dwight Ball, MHAs Sherry Gambin-Walsh and Perry Trimper, and Bruce Chaulk—the Commissioner of Legislative Standards who completed a report on the allegations.
The scandal resulted in Joyce’s departure from his cabinet post and eventually from the Liberal caucus.
Joyce is alleging defamation and damage to his reputation. He’s looking for over $400,000 in damages, other unspecified damages, and court costs.
While sitting as an Independent MHA, Joyce has repeatedly raised questions surrounding the sequence of events leading up to Chaulk’s report, and the subsequent political fallout.
