A 54-year-old man, originally from Newfoundland and Labrador, has died while serving a life sentence in Dorchester Penitentiary in New Brunswick.
In a statement, acting deputy warden Ken LeBlanc says Edward Pittman died on May 10 of what appears to be natural causes following an illness.
Pittman was serving a life sentence for second-degree murder, as well as a number of other convictions. He had been incarcerated since November 20, 1992.
Correctional Services Canada is reviewing the circumstances of Pittman’s passing.
Police and the coroner have been notified.
