Knowing when the province will leave an Alert System altogether depends entirely on how the COVID-19 situation evolves world-wide, especially with our neighbours to the south.

The Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Janice Fitzgerald, says the novel coronavirus is so new that public health remains cautious about any predictions as of right now.

She says we know if a vaccine isn’t found, COVID-19 will be in our communities and we will have to find a way to live with the disease while reducing the risk as much as possible.

There is currently a thread of research into the use of anti-viral medications but it is in the very early stages.
