The pandemic has helped to shed light on how many people in the country are not earning what advocates argue is a living wage.
Dan Meades is one of a growing number of people advocating for a $15 an hour minimum wage.
He says the fact that the federal government set its Canada Emergency Response Benefit at $2000 a month is very telling.

Income support rates in the province are well below that threshold, yet government and some employers are still paying people what he calls “a poverty wage.”
It’s time to consider what that means, says Meades, especially in light of the important role some minimum wage earners have played in ensuring we all get through the pandemic safely.
