Some changes have been made to help with the greater flow of traffic through Holyrood due to the replacement of two massive culverts on the Trans-Canada Highway—but yesterday’s delays may not have anything to do with planning or engineering.
It appears as though Mother Nature may have played a role in slowdowns through the town yesterday evening.
Transportation Minister Steve Crocker says traffic control measures have been put in place, in addition to some changes which the town of Holyrood has implemented to handle the increased volume of traffic.
They removed a piece of curb to allow larger vehicles to make the turn onto Liam Hickey Way without having to enter the roundabout.
Yesterday’s delays were actually caused by the whales feeding in Holyrood Harbour says Crocker.
People were slowing to watch the whales who were putting on quite the show.
Great evening to watch the humpback whale and the massive traffic jam in Holyrood again. #nltraffic @TW_GovNL @DwightBallNL @townofholyrood @SteveCrockerLib pic.twitter.com/KRb3DORf8k
