It seems some drivers aren’t getting the message to ease up on the gas pedal.
On Wednesday, three drivers lost their licences and vehicles for pulling excessive speeds on the Trans-Canada Highway.
The first incident happened at 9 a.m. just west of Clarenville. An RCMP officer pulled over a red Jeep after their radar pinged 158 km/h. The 33-year-old woman behind the wheel was handed a ticket, had her licence suspended, and the vehicle was impounded.
Around 3 p.m., an officer parked near Hampden Junction witnessed a vehicle approaching at high speeds. In that case, the 47-year-old driver from White Bay was ticketed for speeding at 161 km/h.
Then, just 45 minutes later, an officer patrolling the TCH clocked a 30-year-old Fogo man at 155 km/h between Gambo and Glovertown.
In each case, the drivers received heavy fines, their licences were suspended, and all three vehicles were seized.
The RCMP cautions that not only is driving at high speeds unnecessarily dangerous, but drivers found doing so face serious penalties.
