The FFAW would like to see plant workers getting danger pay for working during the pandemic.
Plant workers and others in the fishery are considered essential workers, and as such, says union President Keith Sullivan, they should be compensated for the work they do.
Sullivan says some plant workers, because of their age and health issues, cannot work this year. He would also like to see a package, or the extension of EI benefits for them, while others, because of the condensed season and reduced markets, can’t get enough work to qualify for EI.
