The Executive Director of the Newfoundland and Labrador Employers’ Council says the provincial government needs to begin looking at how we are going to deal with the “financial crisis” facing the province.
Richard Alexander says we have done a great job at “obliterating” the COVID-19 curve, and now it is time to apply that same “laser focus” to our financial woes.

He notes that none of the province’s spending decisions over the last few months have been criticized in the House of Assembly, we have not yet received an update on what our fiscal situation looks like, and money from the interim supply bill will be running out in the fall.
Alexander, who questions what government will do when that money runs out, says we need action now.
He says we were in a “terrible” situation before the pandemic hit, which means we need to hear more from elected officials than what other provinces do. He says we cannot wait for a new premier to be elected.
