Canadians could enjoy a four-day workweek without giving up their real income if worker productivity increases, according to the Fraser Institute.
Senior Fellow Steven Globerman says if workplace productivity increases by two per cent each year, this change could be possible by 2030.
Globerman says many Canadians would enjoy the leisure time.
The study says the key to achieving the successful four-day workweek is for the economy to produce a faster rate of productivity growth in the years ahead but that has been put on hold due to the pandemic.
He says once the COVID-19 crisis passes, hopefully policymakers can turn more attention to the issue of productivity.
Globerman explains that the study is important because the topic of productivity seems to have been lost in the shuffle.
