A hotel in downtown St. John’s is taking a creative approach to encourage social distancing in their restaurant as COVID-19 restrictions ease.
Mannequins are taking up some of the space that guests would normally fill at the Exile Restaurant in the JAG Hotel.
The province made the move to Alert level 3 Monday, which allows restaurants to open at a limited capacity.
Hotel owner, John Steele says he saw others doing the same in the United States and Europe.
The JAG partnered with local tailor, Mandy Lee Dawe to style the mannequins to fit the Hotels theme that celebrates music.
Steele says those who visited the restaurant were very interested the concept. He says many were happy to get out after months of eating at home.
Steele says the pandemic has created challenges for most in the hospitality industry. He says his priority is to create a safe and welcoming environment for staff and customers. He is looking forward to seeing more people getting back to normal.
