Pride Week has officially started in Newfoundland and Labrador.
This year’s Pride 2020 – Celebration in Isolation – recognizes the unique situation presented by COVID-19.
St. John’s Pride has launched a full week of virtual events running until next Sunday, July 19.
To kick things off, Gemma Hickey, an LBGTQ2+ advocate in the province, delivered a speech and sent virtual hugs to the organizers of this year’s events.
In a Facebook video, Hickey honoured those who fought for their community and those who continue to fight for the rights of women, people living with HIV/AIDS, survivors of sexual abuse, at-risk youth and LBGTQ2+ individuals.
Pride flag will fly at Confederation Building for the next seven days.
