The heavy rain has made its way to the metro region but should taper off early this evening with gradual clearing tonight.
David Neal, Meteorologist at the Gander Weather Office, says the rain will change to showers a little later but it will not completely dry up until tomorrow.
He says there will be a mix of sun and cloud for tomorrow in the St. John’s area but there is a possibility of a shower in the afternoon. Once the weather system leaves the Metro region, he says it will break up and clear out.

Meanwhile, police are asking motorists to use caution when traveling on the Trans Canada Highway due to water build-up.
In particular, the highway from St. John’s to Clarenville is experiencing heavy water build-up and pooling in some areas.
Police have been dispatched to three separate motor vehicle collisions in the Clarenville area in the last hour and a half due to the amount of water on the roadways.
The weather has scuttled the Marine Atlantic crossings tonight. The late-night sailings between Port aux Basques and North Sydney have been scrubbed because of high winds in the Gulf. The heavy rain has moved out of the area.
Burgeo on the southwest coast got about 100 mm and parts of Central Newfoundland got about 55 mm.
