A fire early Wednesday in Grand Falls-Windsor has prompted a word of warning from a veteran firefighter.
The local fire department responded to the call around 5 a.m., with the small blaze limited to a bedroom where a device charger had been plugged in.
Chief Vince MacKenzie says the charger’s cord came into contact with the prongs and shorted out near a bed.
He’s reminding people to ensure such chargers are properly connected and plugged in so the cords and chargers, which can become overheated, are far enough away from potentially flammable material, such as bedding.
A 5 am fire response for #GFWFire at a @towngfw residence serves as a reminder to use caution when using device chargers in bedrooms. This incident involved the cord contacting across the prongs & shorted out next to bedding. Give outlets space when charging devices near beds. pic.twitter.com/odyrzOiKrc
