RCMP in Harbour Breton are investigating a suspicious and very unusual fire on the province’s south coast.
Police were called August 14th, to reports of a fire in the parking lot of the Pools Cove garbage dump.
That’s where netting and lump fish hides – used as artificial kelp in the aquaculture industry – were found, well alight.
The aquaculture equipment was being stored at the site.
RCMP say many of the fish hides were still wet after being removed from the water, and with rain falling on that day, the cause of the fire is determined to be suspicious.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
