ATV accidents have taken a deadly toll in the province.
The number of people who have died while using ATVs in Newfoundland and Labrador is double that of last year.
The RCMP say helmets were not worn in about half of the eight cases they were aware of, while in a few other cases, the helmets came off at the time of collision.
That’s a big concern for the Newfoundland and Labrador Brain Injury Association.

Samantha Gerbeau says helmet use is critical in preventing serious, or fatal brain injuries.
Despite the fact that it is the law to wear a helmet while on bicycle or ATV, she still sees people going around with nothing on their heads.
The Brain Injury Association is offering helmet clinics to schools, businesses, and community groups across the province this fall.
While the helmet clinics are for all ages, they put a special emphasis on sending the message about helmet use to young people.
