A 73-year-old man is dead following a boating incident on a pond near Green’s Harbour this morning.

RCMP were called around 9:30 to attend to the scene on Scotch’s Pond involving a 12-foot recreational fishing boat.

Whitbourne RCMP say a man and woman had launched the boat into the pond to go fishing around 6:30 this morning. While repositioning the boats, the man started the engine, lost his balance, and fell into the water.

Police say the woman made multiple attempts to get the man back into the boat but was unsuccessful. She eventually got into the water, brought the man’s body back to shore, and left to get help.

The Chief Medical Examiner’s office is assisting in the investigation.
