There has been a “significant uptick” in the number of COVID-related complaints received through the province’s reporting process in the last number of weeks.
That’s according to Health Minister Dr. John Haggie. He couldn’t provide any specific numbers but did note that the information he was recently given indicates that there has been an increase in reporting over the last three weeks.
The minister isn’t aware of any tickets that have been given for non-compliance but did note there are criminal charges pending against two people.
A 53-year-old woman was arrested in Corner Brook last March for failing to follow self-isolation guidelines. As well, a 24-year-old man from Fort McMurray was also charged in Corner Brook for failing to follow COVID safety protocols last January.
Premier Andrew Furey had a blunt message for anyone blatantly disregarding isolation guidelines. He asks that those people check their egos and ignorance because they are putting everyone at risk.
