One of the most stringent supporters of Jane Doe during the Doug Snelgrove trial says now is the time to wait and see what comes out of the appeal process.
It has been revealed that an appeal has been submitted to the courts on Snelgrove’s behalf, the details of which have not yet been made public.
Heather Elliott protested outside the courthouse in downtown St. John’s during the court proceedings, attracting crowds of people to join her in support of the victim.
She says filing an appeal is Snelgrove’s legal right, but she finds it unfortunate that he “doesn’t understand or believe” that his actions were criminal.
Now, she says they need to wait for the courts to do their due diligence and see what arguments are made.
Luckily, she says Jane Doe won’t have to testify during the appeal process as it’s based solely on what was presented during the trial.
While she believes it would be stressful waiting to see what comes after the appeal, she says it’s important that Jane Doe won’t be present during the proceedings.
