A building that’s been an eyesore in the capital city for decades is finally coming down.
The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure has issued an open call for bids for the demolition of the old Grace Hospital nursing residence off LeMarchant Road.
The work will include hazardous material abatement and disposal, pest control, building demolition, site security and removal of service lines.

The tender is scheduled for closure on June 21.
The news will likely come as welcome relief to area residents and business owners who have been concerned about the decaying structure which has become a haven for pigeons and rats for years.
It’s all part of the funding set aside in the provincial budget for the planning of a new downtown hospital to replace St. Clare’s. The former Grace Hospital site is being assessed as the possible location.
