The process to remove undetonated explosives on board of four shipwrecks off the coast of Bell Island is set to begin next week.
The department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces will be removing the explosives from the wrecks as part of the department’s Legacy UXO Programme.
The removal process will take place from the early afternoon to the early evening between July 15th and the 24th.
RCMP will be providing a 1 nautical mile marine safety exlusion zone around each wreck while the explosives are removed.
As well, the RCMP and RNC will be providing a safety cordon as the devices are moved from CBS to the Cambrai Rifle Range in Mackinsons, where they will be safely detonated.
A segment of the Veteran’s Memorial Highway near the range will be closed during detonation, as well the public are asked to stay 1000 meters away from the range.
