The Newfoundland Growlers lead the Kelly Cup Final series 1-0 following an exciting overtime win before a packed house, including Maple Leafs General Manager Kyle Dubas, at Mile One Centre last night.
The Growlers defeated the Toledo Walleyes 4-3 in sudden death overtime.
St. John’s native, Zach O’Brien, opened the scoring with one second left in the opening frame to give the Growers a 1-0 lead.
Hudson Elynuik doubled the lead 2-0 in the second period. Josh Kestner scored the third goal, extending the Gowlers’ lead to 3-0 in the third period, but that’s when Toledo rallied, scoring three goals to extend the game into overtime. Kesnter was the hero of the evening, scoring the winning goal 4:48 in OT.
The two teams face off again this evening at Mile One, the puck drops at 7:00.
