A man is due in court today after a bizarre incident at a downtown club in which several people were attacked by a knife-wielding man.
The incident happened late one night a couple of weeks ago when workers were preparing to close Toslow, located on Duckworth Street near the War Memorial, for the night.
Toslow, which is more a cafe than a club, opens at 7:30 in the morning and operates until the wee hours. Owner Chris Scott says they have never even had to ask a patron to leave before much less have a fight on the premises.
But Thursday, August 23rd was unlike any other night.
Scott went outside and saw outside furniture strewn about, then a man with a glazed look on his eyes went for him. He retreated to the club where he and three others fought him off but not before the knife had inflicted some cuts and scrapes – nothing of a serious nature.
Incident Mistaken for Unrelated Livingstone Street Stabbing
It was bizarre in the sense that the attacker said nothing during the incident.
Scott says the man did not say anything until he was leaving, and then only from the top of the stairs.
He says they have been getting messages of condolence ever since the victim in the Livingstone Street homicide passed away late last week. He assures that the four people in his group are fine although they suffered numerous lacerations.
Police arrested Lutius Elijah Whalen a couple of days later. He will appear in court today on three charges of assault with a weapon.
