A bear trap has been set up in the Harbour Mille area after reports of a black bear near the Burin Peninsula community.
The Department of Fisheries and Land Resources says black bears should never be approached under any circumstances.
If you do encounter a bear, back away slowly, try to stay downwind and keep an eye on the animal.
Never get between a bear and her cubs.
If the bear has seen or smelled you, remain calm, give the bear space and room to get away. Back away, but do not run, and avoid direct eye contact.
