The weather is cooling off, and that means it’s time to bring marine animals back to their habitats.
The Petty Harbour Mini Aquarium held its 7th annual Animal Release Party yesterday at the St. Phillips Marina.
The aquarium focuses on sustainability, therefore all the critters collected in the spring for their summer exhibit will go back to sea for the winter.
Children with buckets in hand waited in line to get their animal, walk down to the beach and send them off with the help of volunteer snorkelers.
It has been a big year for the mini aquarium. Executive director Keith Moore says the aquarium looks completely different. They have a new water intake system, a gift shop, updated exhibits and a new dark tank that can house deep water creatures.
