The English School District is introducing a Hazing Prevention program in schools across the province.
Chair of the district’s Board of Trustees Goronwy Price says the program is on the leading edge in Canada.
Hazing is described as any action taken or any situation created intentionally that causes embarrassment, harassment or ridicule. Usually as a method of initiation.
Representatives of schools with Grades seven to 12 will be offered a full day of training with the intent that they host sessions in their own schools.
It’s one of a number of policies, programs and initiatives that Price says has been taken by the school district to prevent and address harassment and violence in schools.
