A Newfoundlander who has served on the Wood Buffalo Municipal Council for decades says he expects that Canadians will go back to the polls within the next year.
Keith McGrath, who is originally from Torbay, spoke with VOCM Morning Show co-host Fred Hutton about the anger and frustration being expressed by Albertans and other western Canadians about the Liberal minority government elected on Monday.
McGrath says Alberta has been suffering economically over the last few years, and needs to find new ways to get its oil to market.
He says there are no more capital projects that can be added because their oil lines are at capacity. They’ve considered getting their oil to the north, and the lines are already in the ground through Energy East, but Quebec won’t allow it.
He says Alberta is in a “tight spot” when it comes to exploiting new market opportunities. He says Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has to work with the NDP and Bloc and he suspects he’ll be facing a non-confidence vote in the next six to eight months.
