A woman from Fleur de Lys says she is tired of a black bear problem which she says is “terrorizing” the community.
Speaking on VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly, Laura Walsh expressed disappointment with what she says is inaction from the department of wildlife on the issue.
She says the department has put out traps for the animals, but they haven’t been doing any good.
Walsh says she’s scared to leave her home, and explains that she may have to go to the hospital in the middle of the night, and that she and her husband are frightened to go out because a bear may be out there.
The Department of Fisheries and Land Resources has put out a public advisory regarding black bears in the area. They advise residents to keep all garbage inside until collection day, to keep all pets under close supervision while outside, and to never approach the animal if you do see one.
Any black bear sightings in the area should be reported to the Forestry and Wildlife District Office in Springdale ((709)673-3821 or 668-0777 in an emergency.)
