Two Pouch Cove families are assessing the damage after hurricane-force winds from last week’s storm lifted the roof off one house and drove it into the living room of another.
Jimmy Winsor says he and his family are still shaken by what happened.
Winsor was checking the garage when he got a frantic call from his wife, Jeannie. She was sitting next to the window when their neighbour’s roof came crashing in.
He says the window came – casing and all – about 5 feet into the room and onto the sofa. Neither his wife nor 11 year old daughter who were in the living room at the time, nor his 9-year-old son who was in the bathroom, were hurt.
Winsor says his family says the sound was like something they’ll never forget.
His family is still shaken by the event, describing the sound as “terrifying,” but luckily no one was hurt.
Winsor immediately evacuated his family to safety at a neighbour’s house. Winsor’s family are now living in a rental property but are hoping to move back in their home once they get the okay. Winsor’s neighbour is in a similar circumstance, and have also evacuated their home while their house is assessed.
