The sister of a Newfoundland man who was shot and killed by police in Durham Ontario in 2013 is in favour of body cameras for police officers.
Michael McIsaac suffered a psychological episode and was running naked through a residential neighbourhood while wielding a table leg.
Joanne McIsaac, who led the fight for mandatory mental health training for police officers, believes charges would have been laid in connection with her brother’s death if body cameras had been worn at the time. She applauds the public discussion currently underway.
She thinks body cameras should be mandatory for every interaction between police and the public.
McIsaac believes questions related to privacy concerns and data storage can be sorted out.
