The province’s Assistant Commissioner for the RCMP believes one of the best ways to combat intolerance on the force is through more comprehensive training.
Ches Parsons asserts that “individual aggressive actions of racism towards the public… are very isolated” in the policing industry.
He believes biases and preconceived notions are all part of each individual person, which needs to be addressed.
Parsons says better training is a way to address that.
He says more resources, time and effort need to go into putting the best officers they can out to serve communities, and they are not where they need to be.
