Major changes have been made to a camp for children affected by childhood cancer, but Candlelighters NL has found a way to adapt during the pandemic.
Camp co-director Lisa Blundell says the organization had to make the decision early on to shift gears, and provide participants with “camp in the box.”
The box will include items that would be used at camp like games, craft supplies and other surprises.
Blundell says over 30 volunteers stepped up to make this happen along with the help of a local company, Household Movers.
She says camp means a lot to a lot of families and their supporters so immediately everyone went into problem-solving mode.
Blundell says that the things that the group found scary at first have been overcome and she’s hoping for smooth sailing for the organization in the “new normal.”
